==Progress of newer watches==
I expected GPS watches to improve with time, but the opposite appears to be happening. With the Garmin devices especially, you can see that the older watches generally do far better than the newer ones. I suspect this is due to compromises to get better battery life and smaller packaging and the cost of GPS accuracy.
==Smartphone Accuracy==
Different applications have radically different accuracy, and my testing with the iPhone 5S used [https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/runmeter-gps-pedometer-running/id326498704?mt=8 RunMeter] which gave greater accuracy than some others I tried. While all the apps are using the same data, the sampling frequency and the smoothing they perform can make a huge difference. See [[Running With A Smartphone]] for more details.
