* . The main issue with the Instinct 3 is that there are better shoes available, and it suffers by comparison. It's not a bad shoe, as it lacks any serious problems, but it's not as good as its predecessor, or the Hoka Clifton, Asics Gel Hyper Speed , Altra One2One, and others. The main reason for buying the Instinct would be for longer ultras where the open toe box could cause problems with debris from walking, but try to find the Instinct 2. (I've not had a debris problem when running with an open toe box.)
* . The Instinct is too firmly cushioned for its weight, with similar levels of cushioning to shoes that are much lighter. The cushioning it provides is smooth, even, and has reasonable spring, so don't think this is a rock.
* . Like all Altra shoes, the Instinct is zero drop, which is great.
