When I started to run, I made many mistakes that which I still clearly remember. These pages should make your entry into the world of running much smoother and easier than mine was.
- Starting to run Start with a simple walk/run pattern and build on it. It's the easiest way, and it reduces the risk of injury. While it's a common concern for beginners, you don't have to worry about your Breathing.
- If you get your Cadence right, then your Running Form will normally fall into place and you'll avoid problems such as Overstriding. Don't worry about your Breathing; just do what comes naturally. You shouldn't need to worry about your Foot Strike (Cadence should take care of that as well).
- Running and cycling each have their proponents, so it's worth understanding their relative merits.
- Do you burn more calories when running or walking?
- What does science say about Running and long term health?
- Even for beginners, I believe it's important to maintain a training log and social web sites such as Dailymile can provide support and Motivation.
- While a good running watch can help, you probably want to consider starting off with by using your smartphone to record your runs.
- You can run in in most weather conditions. Running in the Rain can often be fun, and it's fairly easy to adapt to Running in the Cold (at least down to freezing point). Running in the Heat is a little harder, and you'll need to slow down.
- Running is generally pretty safe if you take some basic precautions.
- For most of us, winter involves not only cold, but Running in the Dark, and a good light for running can be useful.
- If you prefer running on trails then here are 10 things you'll need for trail running.
